The Institute for Social Justice and Race Relations’ goal is to increase student and faculty engagement in critical social justice and race relations issues. We also work to establish viable community partnerships to provide forums to discuss ways of organizing communities for positive social change and for overcoming cultural and racial barriers.

Join us Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:30am for a virtual conversation as we engage Mr. David Dennis, Jr., a journalist and author of the critically acclaimed memoir and oral history, The Movement Made Us, an exploration of the life of a prominent civil rights leader who organized Freedom Rides, lunch counter sit-ins, and voter registration drives in the Jim Crow South – his father, David Dennis Sr.

As noted by Robert Jones, Jr., The Movement Made Us, provides a “thoughtful and unsparing recalibration of history, captures all of the terrors of being Black in the United States, the diligence of our resistance work, the nuances of our existence, and the miracle of our survival.”

This conversation will be moderated by Mr. Chauncey Spears, Community Engagement Manager, Alluvial Collective.
