Women’s History Month Highlight: Dr. Denise Jones Gregory

Dr. Denise Jones Gregory of Columbus, Mississippi, serves as the Interim President of Jackson State University. With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, she previously served as Associate Provost of Student Success and Diversity at Samford University, where she oversaw key student support areas including diversity, accessibility and accommodations, and the Academic Success Center.

A proud graduate of Jackson State University, Dr. Gregory earned her Bachelor of Science in chemistry before receiving her doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a life member of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association.

The JSU CHORALE finale in Atlanta was AMAZING! We could not be more proud of the work Dr. Cecil is doing with the choir at Jackson State University.

Our choral scholars are beyond talented, and they represented the university, themselves, and their families with the utmost respect and class.

It was truly an honor for our JSUNAA CHAPTERS to support them while they toured the Southeastern Region! Thee I Love 💙 🤍

What an amazing two days with the Jackson State University JSU Chorale.

Thank you, Dr. Denise Jones Gregory, for your dedicated leadership as Interim President of Thee Jackson State University. Your love for Jackson State is evident and ever present. We are grateful for your vision, your service, and your continued commitment to excellence.

We also extend sincere thanks to Sixth Avenue Baptist Church for the warm hospitality shown throughout this experience. It was a beautiful reflection of generosity, grace, and community.

Thank you, Dr. Harry Cecil, for leading the choral department with such quality and a clear expectation of vocal excellence. Your relationship with your students is evident, and the talent they possess is truly amazing. Every song was performed with passion, precision, and purpose.

Thank you to the JSUNAA Birmingham Chapter members and President, Rameka Davis, for their collaboration and for making sure our choir had a home cooked meal served with love. It was also an honor and a privilege to host the JSU Chorale at Woodlawn High School. Their performance was, once again, absolutely top tier.

Thank you to Southeastern Region President, Freida Dale and the JSUNAA Tuscaloosa Chapter for traveling to Birmingham to meet, greet, and serve lunch to the JSU Chorale. Also, Tuscaloosa Chapter President, Dennis Connor.

We would also like to thank our local supporters, friends, and community partners for your continued support. Your presence, encouragement, and generosity helped make this experience even more meaningful.

We could not miss the opportunity to celebrate the gifted voices of the JSU Chorale. They are exceptionally talented, gracious, and inspiring
