What a great life lesson yesterday in the Olympic Road Cycling event. An ALTERNATE won the gold medal. Think of all the opportunities we have to teach young people to always be ready because you never know when you will be called upon. I imagine many coaches will be using this story to motivate their players this year to always be ready for the call.

Let's get an alumni section started to see what our graduates have been up to since leaving Union. I will get us started to give you an idea of what to share.

I graduated Union with a Physical Education degree in May 1992. I went directly to Memphis State (now Univ. of Memphis) and completed a Masters degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion in December 1993.

Dr. Linn Stranak called me during the summer of 1994 to come back to take the intramural and aquatics director position knowing that I would like to become the first Wellness Director when that position became a reality. I served as intramural and aquatics director 94-95, Wellness Director 95-97, and then became a PEWS instructor and coach beginning the 97-98 academic year. I started out coaching tennis and eventually became the first cross country coach and kept that job until Fall 2019.

Personal highlights during the past 30 years: Met my wife Holly and got married in December 1999, completed my doctorate at MTSU in May 2004, had our son Miles in June 2005, and now Miles is starting Union this Fall as a freshman.

Professional highlights during the past 30 years: Designed and opened the Wellness Center. Won conference championships in Tennis and Cross Country, taking teams to nationals nearly 20 years. Designed the Exercise Science major and became the primary teacher and advisor in that program. Published articles about student-athlete college choice and the impact of COVID on student-athletes during the 2019-2020 academic year.
