Happy World Social Work Day and National Social Work Month! We are so thankful for our very own social workers who serve the Birth Choice Adoption Agency. Social workers truly make the world a better place, and we can't wait to see what God will do through these two.

❤ Lisa Reasons, MSW, is our fearless Executive Director of Adoption Services (on the left)
❤ Julia Gray, BSW, is our precious Expectant & Birth Mother Advocate (on the right)

P.S. The giraffes in the background were a gift from the Creation Museum...that is a cool story for another post!

Help us congratulate Katelyn Branch on her new role as a Social Worker here at Kirkland Cancer Center! 🎉

Katelyn is a Jackson, TN native and first joined us as a Social Work Intern in September 2024 while completing her field practicum during her bachelor’s program. During her time at Union, she was recognized with the Union University Social Work Class of 2025 Outstanding BSW Field Practicum Student Award! 😃

She graduated with her Bachelor’s of Social Work from Union University in May 2025 and will graduate with her Master’s of Social Work on May 2, 2026! 🎓

Katelyn joined the team part-time in May after graduation and stepped into her full-time role in December. When asked about her experience, Katelyn says, “I have loved every second of it.”

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and painting. 🎨

Katelyn's smile lights up whatever room that she walks in and is truly a blessing to both our patients and staff here at Kirkland Cancer Center. We are so thankful to have her on the KCC team!

Thank you for all that you do, Katelyn — we appreciate you! 💙

During Social Work Month, we are celebrating the dedicated social workers who support children and families across Tennessee.

Jumaane Wilcox is a CPS Investigator in the Mid-West Region serving Hardin County. In his first seven months with DCS, he has already committed himself to making a difference by helping young people recognize their potential and supporting families through difficult situations.

Jumaane says he was inspired to pursue this work because he wanted to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children. During an internship in spring 2025, he saw firsthand how social workers show up for families every day, and he knew this was the path he wanted to follow.

For Jumaane, the most fulfilling part of the job is seeing families reunified and moving forward together. Those moments reinforce his belief in the importance of helping youth strive for greatness.

Thank you, Jumaane, for the commitment and care you bring to Tennessee families every day!

Meet the School of Social Work Faculty! ❤️

Today’s introduction: Professor Moody

▫️What courses do you teach?

Both BSW and MSW courses.

▫️How long have you been teaching?

I have been educating individuals, families and groups for the entirety of my 14-year career. However, I have taught in the classroom at the college level for one year.

▫️What’s your favorite Bible verse?

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ***For most people I think this verse is seen as a plea when we are going through tough times in life, and while that may be a beautiful perspective, I see this verse as a daily form of encouragement that God has plans to make sure I have hope and a future. It is peaceful to know that His plans will be far more perfect than anything I can plan for my life. He desires to see me prosper and despite anything “harmful” that life can throw at me; God knows me and has a purpose for my life and plans that will be for His good.

▫️What advice do you have for Social Work students?

The best advice I can give is, there is never a person or situation that is all “one thing.” Each person and situation has good and bad, pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses. Often times we back ourselves into a corner by thinking we have to choose between “this OR that” when in reality it is “and”. We can be thankful AND feel overwhelmed; a person can have a personality that is frustrating AND be very skilled in their field; a situation can be exciting AND scary. We should not limit ourselves with “one thing” or “OR” types of thinking personally, spiritually or professionally.

Say hello to Professor Moody in the comments below! 👋🏽 We are thrilled to have her on the School of Social Work team!

A special thank you to Mr. Alderson and the Fesmire Fieldhouse for hosting them. And a special thank you to Dr. Wilson, Social Work professor, and volunteers from Calvary Baptist for driving!
