Leadership University

Leadership University Leadership development program for high school juniors from Jackson – Madison County, TN. For more information, contact Lauren Saliba at (731) 423-2200.

A chamber-sponsored program for high school juniors in Madison County—public, private and home schooled students are eligible to apply. Leadership University prepares students for involvement in the community and helps to hone leadership skills for 40 high school students each year. Through interactive programming, Leadership University teaches about all aspects of our community, as well as prepar

es participants to be leaders in their schools and community, equipping them with skills and information to be successful. Because of the generosity of affiliate sponsors participants' only cost is "paying it forward" through community service each month of the program to assigned social service agencies. A key skill of Leadership University is learning to be a servant leader and making a positive difference in the lives of others, as well as your community.

A great final Leadership University session to wrap it all up!

Students focused on understanding their values as leaders, participated in a financial simulation provided by Leaders Credit Union, reflected on their LU journey, completed mock interviews, and heard from our local colleges about what’s ahead. Thanks to all of our volunteers for your time!

It’s been incredible to watch their growth throughout this program.

Next and final stop…Graduation!

Today our Leadership University students went “Inside the System”… getting a firsthand look at our local criminal justice system through court visits, live proceedings, and conversations with judges, law enforcement, and community leaders.

There’s nothing like seeing it in action. Grateful for the leaders who poured into our students and helped bring the system to life today!

Our LU class wrapped up our Community Development session with a focus on the leadership skill of motivating others.

We were grateful to hear from community leaders who work together every day to move Jackson-Madison County forward: Mayor Scott Conger, Mayor AJ Massey, Chamber Economic Development team members Kyle Spurgeon, Mandy White, and Logan McCoy, Beth Bolton discussed tourism, Kevin Adelsberger on entrepreneurship, and John Verell on agribusiness.

Their message was clear: collaboration and strong leadership are key to making Jackson-Madison County the best it can be.

What a day! Our LU crew learned about accountability, toured The Carnegie, soaked up Jackson’s music history, enjoyed a Texas Roadhouse lunch at SWTDD, and wrapped it up by learning about the arts and letting loose and showing off their creative side!
