We had so much fun at our annual CCEC Club Cookout!

Eighteen of our computing, engineering and construction management clubs and organizations welcomed more than 250 students and shared information about their clubs, upcoming activities and ways to get involved.

Students enjoyed free BBQ while connecting with classmates and learning more about opportunities across our college.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our student leaders who helped make the cookout such a fun and welcoming start to the semester!

Congratulations to School of Computing faculty members Dr. Swapnoneel Roy and Dr. Ayan Dutta on a major new award from the NSA - National Security Agency.

The more than $720,000, three-year grant will support CyberJaxAI-PATH: Cyber AI Pathways for K–12 Education, a project led by UNF in partnership with Florida State College at Jacksonville, Jacksonville University, and Duval County Public Schools.

Roy, professor of computing and director of UNF’s Center for Cybersecurity, will serve as principal investigator and coalition lead. The UNF team also includes Dr. Daniel Dinsmore.

Together, the team will develop AI-integrated cybersecurity curriculum, provide hands-on training and professional development for teachers, and help create pathways for students to continue into college programs and careers in cybersecurity and AI.

Strong industry partnerships are a big part of how CCEC connects students with opportunities beyond the classroom.

The fifth annual UNF Employer Summit brought more than 250 representatives from over 100 companies, nonprofits and agencies to campus, including organizations with strong ties to computing, engineering and construction such as NASA, Stellar, JEA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

These relationships help create pathways for internships, career opportunities, applied learning and ongoing collaboration between our students, faculty and industry partners.

A big shoutout to UNF Career Services for connecting our students with employers, creating opportunities to build professional relationships and helping strengthen the talent pipeline across Northeast Florida.

A mechanical engineering degree from UNF can get you to the moon! 🚀🌕

CCEC alumnus Luke Delaney, ’06, will pilot NASA’s SpaceX Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station this September.

Delaney earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at UNF while serving in the Marine Corps. He credits his engineering coursework, supportive faculty and hands-on internship experience with helping build the foundation for a career that has taken him from naval aviation and aerospace engineering to NASA.

During the approximately six-month mission, Delaney and the Crew-13 team will conduct scientific investigations and technology demonstrations that support life on Earth and future exploration of the Moon and Mars.

UNF students traveled to Spain to support NASA’s Aug. 12 total solar eclipse mission, launching a high-altitude balloon to collect atmospheric and communications data during the eclipse.

The UNF team was led by Dr. Hemani Kaushal, electrical engineering assistant professor, and Dr. Nirmalkumar Patel, physics lecturer in the College of Arts and Sciences.

UNF was one of only three university teams selected and funded by to participate in the international mission.

It's never too early to start chasing your dreams!

Our School of Computing welcomed high school students from Duval and St. Johns counties for advanced enrichment programs in AI, data science and cybersecurity this summer as part of the GenCyber program.

Lead by computing professor Dr. Swapnoneel Roy, with instructors Richard Lentz and Jim Littleton, the camp gave students hands-on experiences across both artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

In AI4Good: Neighborhood Data Residency, students used data science and ethical AI to explore community challenges, while Advanced Cybersecurity Enrichment Week focused on topics such as digital forensics, ethical hacking, Python-based security programming, social engineering and AI-enabled cyber threats.
