JU Davis College of Business & Technology

JU Davis College of Business & Technology JU Davis Means Business. Why Davis is Great?:

Prospective students often have difficulty knowing the true differences between business programs. Not us. You.

The Davis College of Business & Technology is the only Triple-accredited (AACSB, AABI, ABET) private business school in all of North Florida and South Georgia. The marketing brochures and words simply cannot communicate what the student experience is all about in a school. You need to be here to best understand what makes us special. Here are some of the features we value and you need to recognize

:

• YOU are the center of the learning experience. Faculty and staff are here in the Davis College of Business because they want to know you, what you want to accomplish, and help in making that happen. All of us know that the one thing that unites us is our love of teaching and learning through relationships with students. Faculty are talented, highly educated professionals who love bringing out the best in students.

• Developing you as a leader. There is a growing shortage of talented leaders in the world and yet few business schools invest deeply in developing students as leaders for this world. We do. It just isn't about a leadership course or two. The competencies and skills required of leaders are embedded across programs and experiences in the Davis College of Business. Leadership development is central to our Vision and Mission, and we work at it continuously and thoughtfully.

• Learning through doing. A good portion of what you will learn will not come from books. It will come from the learning experiences we create for you inside and outside the classroom, for credit and otherwise. Whether team simulations, group projects, field trips to companies, semester study abroad, student organizations, internships, or professional mentoring with senior professionals, those experiences offer opportunities for personal growth. It is an exceedingly intense and active education.

• Relationships with faculty. Our smaller size not only means smaller class sizes, but the opportunity to get to know faculty and develop learning relationships impossible at larger schools. Many students work with faculty on research projects, some even helping write and present work with faculty at professional meetings, even publish it. Not uncommon at all, really. Graduates may leave JU and Davis, but they will always remember the one or two, even three or four, faculty who made a big difference in their lives. They stay in touch.

• Cutting-edge knowledge kept current. The myth is that only large research schools create advanced knowledge. Absolutely not true. Davis College of Business faculty are notable because so many have started or led businesses, consult to top companies, and publish award-winning scholarship. They have real world experience and create cutting edge knowledge that shows in their classrooms. We continuously examine our programs to make sure what we are teaching is as current as the issues you read about in today's newspaper. We encourage you to compare our programs with those of any top ranked business program. Seriously. These are just some of the common elements across our undergraduate and graduate programs and they really do make a difference...the Davis College of Business difference. AACSB Accreditation:

What do you want when you think about earning a business degree? Expanding your mind with dedicated professors who are great teachers doing important research? Being mentored and coached by business professionals who are tops in their field? High-quality classmates who challenge you to do your best and may be friends for life? Most of all, accessing new job opportunities that launch that first or second great career, even a new venture? All of these goals are good ones for the Davis College of Business. However, not all business programs are created equal, and big differences exist that are important to understand. The most important factor in determining the quality of a program and its ability to deliver what you want is its accreditation. While nearly all schools claim to be accredited, the source of that accreditation is critical and you need to understand this very important fact. The Davis College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). Only 5% of all the business schools in the world are accredited by AACSB, making it the most difficult, and therefore prestigious, accreditation for a school to earn. Very strict standards apply in every area - faculty quality, teaching resources and technology, facilities, connections with the business community, and services for students. Whether an Ivy League school or a top business magazine ranked state school, the fact is that we all earned and share AACSB accreditation. We proudly earned our AACSB accreditation and know how important it can be for you. It means high standards for admission, relevant and current knowledge in your classes, faculty who are at the top of their game, and access to career and professional opportunities that non-AACSB schools will never give you. Indeed, many companies will not support their employees as students or hire graduates from non-AACSB accredited programs. Other AACSB schools look at students transferring to them from other AACSB schools more positively, including for graduate study. We'd like to welcome you to "the club" -- a very special club that can deliver the goals you seek. Beta Gamma Sigma:

Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB. Election to lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest honor a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate or master’s program at a school accredited by AACSB. Students, based on high academic achievement, and tenured business school faculty members are the only candidates for society membership. With more than 580,000 members worldwide, the society’s membership comprises the brightest and best of the world’s business leaders. Davis graduate students chosen for Beta Gamma Sigma are in the top 20 percent of their class. The Davis College of Business received its initial AACSB accreditation in 2010. Shortly thereafter the Davis College of Business Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was formed. The first induction ceremony was held in Spring 2012 inducting 52 undergraduate and graduate students, 11 faculty and administrators and Mayor Alvin Brown (a Davis College of Business EMBA graduate) as its honorary inductee.
