Welcome to Jacksonville State University's Houston Cole Library! Named for President Emeritus Dr. Houston Cole, the Houston Cole Library was built in 1972. The facility is a thirteen-story building divided into eight micro-libraries. Floors two through seven and nine through ten are divided into public subject areas and are managed by subject specialist librarians. Each public service librarian is

responsible for collection maintenance and development, supervision of student employees, liaison activities, and instruction. The Library is staffed with 15 professional and 18 para-professional employees. We are here to assist you with your research and information needs. HCL is proud to announce that, Jodi Poe, Head of Technical Services at the Houston Cole Library and Editor, Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning Received the Distance and Online Learning Section (DOLS) Distance Learning Librarianship Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). This award honors an individual who has contributed to the success of distance and online learning librarianship through a specific project or initiative related to library service in higher education. Melissa Atkinson and Michael Courtney, Co-Chairs of the DOLS Awards Committee, shared “The nominated project by Jodi Poe, editor of the Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning, is illustrative of the creative support of distance library education through a publication of exemplary quality.” 🥳

Keagan Hardin is this year's recipient of the Martha Cole Award for Outstanding Student Worker. Keagan is graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in the Spring of 2026 and has been with the Library for four years. He will join the HCL in Fall 2026 as our newest graduate assistant. We would like to thank him for his work and look forward to seeing him return in his new role! Congratulations, Keagan! 🥳
