These little girls visited our police station today with their dad hoping to meet a female police officer. Officer Kristina Payne was in the area and more than happy to come come talk to them about what she does here on campus. Hopefully, good memories were made and maybe these two will turn out to be future Ospreys!

Last November, UPD Officers Porteus and Brown responded to a call of a potentially suicidal individual in a campus residence hall. When they arrived at the location of the call they saw that the individual, a student, was sitting on a windowsill with his legs hanging out the window. The officers attempted to engage the student in conversation while closing the distance between themselves and the individual in the window. Upon seeing the officers, the student attempted to jump from the open window which would have resulted in a fall of over 60 feet to the ground below. Officers Porteus and Brown moved quickly toward the student and were able to grab him and move him to safety before he could jump from the window.

For their actions, Officers Porteus and Brown were presented with the UPD Life Saving Award. They are an example for all UPD officers and a credit to our campus community! Thank you!
