We are incredibly proud of our second-year OTA student, Tori, who serves as Vice President of Phi Theta Kappa, for proudly inducting freshman OTA students Hannah and Alyssa during this yearโ€™s PTK Induction Ceremony.

Moments like these reflect the heart of our OTA program โ€” students leading, supporting, and inspiring one another every step of the way. Congratulations to Hannah, Alyssa, and all of the newest PTK inductees! ๐ŸŽ“โœจ

Jamestown Community College Jayhawk's Explore & Soar OT Clinic is developing community-based training opportunities for providers in Chautauqua County (and beyond) who serve children and their families!

We want to hear from:
Pediatricians, Educators, Paraprofessionals, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), Physical Therapy Practitioners, Occupational Therapy Practitioners, Speech & Language Pathologists, and other community providers offering youth & family programs.

The input you provide will help guide training topics, training schedule and determine needs within the community of practitioners serving families in our county.
This survey takes 5-10 minutes.

Thank you for helping us building something meaningful so that we can ALL give back to our beautiful community. For questions or more information contact: [email protected]

Exploring the world of non-traditional Occupational Therapy settings! ๐ŸŒŸ OTAs have the opportunity to work in innovative environments like driver rehabilitation, helping individuals regain the skills and confidence to drive safely after an injury or medical condition. Another exciting area is animal-assisted therapy, where you work with trained animals to support patients in physical, emotional, and cognitive recovery. You might also find yourself in adaptive sports programs, helping individuals get back into the game after an injury, or aquatic therapy, using waterโ€™s properties to improve strength and mobility. Additionally, OTAs can specialize as seating and mobility specialists, helping patients with complex seating and wheelchair needs to enhance comfort and independence. These non-traditional settings provide new, engaging ways to make therapy fun, functional, and impactful!

Letโ€™s dive into the diverse and impactful work of Occupational Therapy with the adult population! ๐ŸŒŸ As an OTA, you can make a difference in a variety of settings, including:

๐Ÿฅ Hospitals - Working with individuals recovering from surgeries, strokes, heart attacks, or traumatic injuries. ๐Ÿก Home Health - Helping adults regain independence in their own homes, especially after major surgeries or conditions like arthritis, dementia, or stroke. ๐Ÿข Outpatient Clinics - Supporting patients with chronic conditions, post-operative rehabilitation, or those adjusting to new diagnoses like Parkinsonโ€™s disease or spinal cord injuries. ๐Ÿ  Skilled Nursing Facilities - Working with elderly patients managing cognitive decline, mobility issues, or chronic pain. ๐Ÿง  Mental Health Settings - Assisting those with anxiety, depression, or trauma, and improving their daily functional skills.

OTAs in adult care work alongside a wide range of professionals to ensure comprehensive and personalized care for each patient. Collaboration is key! Youโ€™ll team up with physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers to create a holistic treatment plan. By working together, we help adults reach their goals and regain independence in their daily lives. Itโ€™s all about building a supportive team that empowers patients to thrive! ๐Ÿ’ช

Meet Krysta Rives, a proud graduate of the program with a track record of major accomplishments! ๐ŸŽ“โœจ During OT Month, we celebrate the dedication, expertise, and passion of individuals like Krysta who are shaping the future of occupational therapy. Weโ€™re proud to share her story as a reminder of the endless possibilities that come with a degree in occupational therapy. Thank you, Krysta, for all you do to inspire and elevate the profession!

"Iโ€™m an occupational therapy professional with a background in clinical practice, teaching, writing, and mentoring. After earning my degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) in 2013, I explored different career paths, including travel therapy, before finding my passion in academia. Iโ€™ve had the opportunity to co-author the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework, 4th Edition and the Guidelines for Supervision in Occupational Therapy document. Along the way, Iโ€™ve been honored with awards like the NBCOT Impact Award. I currently serve as an accreditation evaluator for ACOTE and run a business helping OT and OTA students prepare for their certification exams. Teaching and mentoring are what drives me, and I love being able to support the next generation of occupational therapy professionals.โ€
