Residential living is a significant component of a student's college experience. In addition to the benefit of building life-long friendships, research indicates that living on campus plays an important role regarding a student's academic success. The opportunity to live and interact within a diverse population is an educational opportunity unique to residential living. Residence halls also provid

e an excellent opportunity to learn beyond the classroom, as students participate in various programs and activities that compliment their academic experience. The Carson-Newman Residence Life Program plays an essential role in the co-curricular education of students. Boyer Laboratory for Learning, the residential experience provides a variety of opportunities for the social and educational development of students. Students also have the ability to become involved in leadership positions within their residence halls. Students are encouraged to become involved by working with Residence Hall Council (RHC), serving as a Resident Assistant (RA), or working as a Desk Assistant. Through the combination of academic pursuits and residential experiences, students are challenged intellectually, spiritually, physically, and socially. The Residence Life and Housing Services staff attempts to foster these challenges through providing environments that are conducive to studying, and that promote the learning of life skills through cooperative living. All full-time students are required to live on campus unless they meet one or more of the criteria to live off-campus. Students may contact the Residence Life Office (MSAC 2009) to obtain specific information related to off-campus criteria. All students who live off-campus must complete an application and receive approval from the Residence Life Office. Students who live off-campus must adhere to the College Code of Conduct. Failure to do so may result in the rescindment of off-campus approval.
