ETSU Brain-Computer Interface Laboratory Welcome to the Brain-Computer Interface Laboratory at East Tennessee State University, directed by D

Our research is dependent upon a variety of fields including psychology, psychophysiology, cognitive neuroscience, computer science, electrical engineering, rehabilitation engineering, and neurology, to name a few. Initially, we test experimental procedures and manipulations in the laboratory. Procedures that yield the best results (in terms of speed and accuracy of communication) are then transla

ted to formats specifically designed for people with severe motor disabilities. These protocols are then tested with disabled individuals in the laboratory, in the home, and in the hospital environment. Our ultimate goal is to develop a BCI system that is robust and portable enough to meet the daily communication and social interaction needs of severely disabled individuals.

We officially have IRB approval and are ready to begin collecting data for our new study "Investigating the Error Related Negativity Component of the EEG."
Students keep an eye on SONA, the study will be soon available for 3 SONA credits!

Today is the first day of our new campaign! Check out the link below for more information or to donate to the lab.

As the ice bucket challenge continues to take the U.S. by storm raising awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), ETSU faculty member Dr. Eric Sellers, pictured here with doctoral students David Ryan (left) of Nashville and Samantha Sprague of Cincinnati, is moving forward with his research to help patients diagnosed with this condition, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, be able to communicate.

...Members of our trusty team are in beautiful Monterey, Ca this week both presenting at and learning from the 5th Annual BCI conference. It has heretofore been a lovely experience. There is a lot of work being conducted within the field and it will only serve to improve the systems as we move forward. I will be adding pictures as often as I can so we can share this experience and our science excitement with everyone.

Best, Kel
