ETSU Quillen College of Medicine A student-friendly medical college with small class sizes in a relaxed and hands-on environment.

Set in the mountains of East Tennessee, Quillen College of Medicine provides a unique community to educate future physicians. The average class size of 72 provides a family like atmosphere. The technological advances in our anatomy teaching lab, human patient simulator lab and our standardized patient encounter rooms provide unique teaching environments with hands, integrated learning experiences

. We are proud of our reputation to produce primary care physicians to rural areas and are nationally ranked for doing so. Our optional rural track curriculum provides a physician with the tools to practice in rural areas lacking many modern technological advances; from rural Tennessee to the isolated outback of Australia, our has been prepared for almost any practice environment.

For 46 years, she has been a dedicated advocate for graduate medical education, supporting generations of residents and fellows at Quillen. Her compassion, mentorship and commitment to excellence have left a lasting impact on countless physicians and the communities they serve.

Connor Belcher, a fourth-year medical student from Hartsville, Tennessee, has been recognized as the May Student Spotlight.

Outside the classroom, he enjoys hiking, spending time with friends and family, and hanging out with his basset hound, Quincy. 🐶

Connor is pursuing a career in family medicine after seeing firsthand the need for physicians in medically underserved communities like his hometown. He hopes to become a full-spectrum family medicine physician who prioritizes continuity, trust and advocacy for patients who need it most.

A research partnership between the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and Quillen College of Medicine is helping advance the future of HIV treatment. 🧬

Researchers developed a potential new HIV treatment that demonstrated the ability to disrupt virus replication and expression at the genetic level — an important early step in addressing one of the biggest challenges in HIV treatment.

The study highlights the innovative research and collaboration taking place in Northeast Tennessee to improve lives locally and far beyond our region.

We celebrated six Class of 2026 graduates promotion into the military. Congratulations to these graduates as they step forward as both physicians and military officers.

• Dr. Allen David Archer, Captain, U.S. Air Force. He will complete his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, specializing in operational emergency medicine.

• Dr. Angela Chu, Captain, U.S. Air Force. She will complete her residency with San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education in San Antonio, Texas, specializing in internal medicine.

• Dr. Michelle Ann Everly, Captain, U.S. Army. She will complete her residency with Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, specializing in general surgery.
