Making history and finding her voice 🖤✍️

Nia Thompson, a student at East Tennessee State University, is serving as the Youth Poet Laureate of Knoxville and is the first Black poet to hold the role.

A studio art major, Nia uses creativity across multiple mediums, from poetry to photography, to tell powerful, personal stories. What began as a way to process her experiences has grown into a platform that inspires others across her community.

Now performing, leading, and creating, she’s proving that art doesn’t just express your voice, it helps you discover it.

Helping shape the future of music in Tennessee 🎶

Ron Roach, chair of Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University, has been appointed to the Tennessee Music Advisory Council by Bill Lee.

As a leader of ETSU’s renowned Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music Studies program, Roach has spent his career preserving Appalachian culture while pushing it onto the national stage. Now, he’ll help guide how Tennessee turns that rich musical heritage into real economic opportunity.

From the classroom to statewide impact, this is Appalachian leadership in action.

From painting her own clothes as a student to designing sold-out merch for the Jonas Brothers, Olivia Ellis is turning creativity into a career. 🎨✨

A proud graphic design graduate of East Tennessee State University, Olivia discovered her voice through hands-on experiences, campus involvement, and a willingness to experiment. That foundation helped launch her to Brooklyn, where she now works as a Senior Art Director.

Her latest milestone? Designing a custom T-shirt for the Jonas Brothers’ Knoxville tour stop: a design that SOLD OUT the same night!

From studio classes to global stages, this is what a graphic design degree can do.

🎤💙💛 Final Challenge: ETSU Feud (Part 1) 💛💙🎤

It all comes down to this.

Our teams face off in ETSU Feud, guessing the most popular answers from surveys across campus.

After the first three rounds…

🔵 Team Blue is in control
🟡 Team Gold has had chances to steal, but couldn’t convert

But in ETSU Feud, everything can change in an instant.

The team with the most donors will earn a major advantage in the final round:

💥 A second chance to answer and the better score counts

That means Team Gold could still take the win.

🧠💙 Team Blue Takes the Trivia Win 💙🧠

It came down to the wire.

After 15 tough questions, Team Blue finished with 12/15 and held on to secure the Trivia Challenge victory! 🏆

Team Gold kept it close, and even had a path to the win, but in the end, Blue got the donor advantage, meaning their final score is 12/13.

Now it all comes down to the final challenge: ETSU Feud!
