Good morning. The sun is dodging clouds this morning trying to get the day going.

Today’s Devo is from Chapter 12 of The Pursuit of Holiness entitled: HOLINESS IN SPIRIT…2 Corinthians 7:1-“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Someone has said,”If I could flash on a screen before us all of our thoughts of this past week, we would have to leave town.” Our thoughts are just as important to God as our actions, and are known to God as clearly as our actions (Psalm 139:1-4; I Samuel 16:7). The Bible indicates that our thought lives ultimately determine our character. (Proverbs 23:7). An old well-known verse puts it this way:
“Sow a thought, reap an act,
Sow an act, reap a habit;
Sow a habit, reap a
character.”

It is because of the importance of our thought lives that Paul said:”Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-dwell on these things.”(Philippians 4:8). As intentional Christ followers we are no longer to be conformed to the pattern of this world but we are to be renewed in our minds (Romans 12:1-2);
Ephesians 4:23; I Peter 1:14).
Holiness begins in our minds and works out to our actions. This being true, what we allow to enter our minds is critically important.

Consider This…
1-What am I regularly allowing to enter my mind?
2-Is it strengthening my intentional walk with the Lord? Or, is it distracting me from that intentional walk?
3-What intentional changes do I need to make so that Philippians 4:8 becomes the norm in my life?

Good Morning!
Suns up on this Labor Day Weekend. Today’s STANDFIRM Devotional “FOCUS ON WHAT’S AHEAD, NOT ON WHAT’S BEHIND.” Haggai 2:1-9. Verses 3-4a says, “Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Doesn’t it seem to you like nothing by comparison? Even so, be strong, Zerubbabel-this is the Lord’s declaration.”

The good news in this passage is found toward the end where God promises a future glory that will be greater than they could imagine.

God’s prophet Haggai and God’s civil leader Zerubbabel were tasked with keeping the people’s’ eyes looking forward. Hey could never go back to the way things were; they had to put their focus on what God was doing and where their trust in God would take them. They couldn’t dwell on the good old days and live with nostalgia because they were commanded to rebuild Jerusalem and the temple. It can also be very easy for us to focus on the rear-view mirror - to remember when we were younger and stronger, or to idolize our church in the past and remember happier times and lament what we are experiencing now. But living with a rear-view mirror focus takes our eyes off where God is leading us in our journey of faith. We must keep our eyes fixed forward and rely on the empowerment and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

1-What are some ways you’ve focused on the rear-view mirror instead of the windshield?
2-How can you keep your life focused on what is ahead?
