Waves Emotion Lab at Florida Atlantic University

Waves Emotion Lab at Florida Atlantic University Pregnant women, infants and children are invited to participate in one of our fun exploratory experiences.

Send us a message to learn more about the opportunities the FAU emotion Lab offers! Current research on brain development suggests that the frontal lobes continue to develop throughout childhood. The frontal lobes of the brain is involved in emotion regulation. Our goal is to examine the factors that contribute to risk and resilience in the development of emotional response. Individual differences

in temperament and social interactive patterns with parents impact the trajectory of emotional functioning during childhood. Our research is designed to explore and understand the contributors to optimal infant and child development.

Touch plays an important role in early development. In a recently published study based on Dr. Hardin's dissertation project, we examined a formalized mother-infant touch training protocol called kangaroo care. It was found that this skin-to-skin procedure favorably influences both neurodevelopmental trajectories and infant neurobiological functioning.
