At Kalamazoo College, students have the opportunity to speak German in and out of the classroom. Courses in German are taught at all levels and focus on the German culture, and history of the past and present, while also helping students to further develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Great works of literature, films, television programs, youth novels, and newspaper art

icles provided, also offer fascinating insights into German culture. Outside of the class, students can participate in the German departments weekly activities, such as the weekly game hour, die Spielstunde. There is also a weekly conversation hour, der Stammtisch, as well as a weekly lunch table, der Mittagstisch. Once every few weeks students are welcome to join the German Department for a movie night, Filmabend. In May the German Department holds its annual Maifest, where the German Department gathers to eat cake and drink coffee, while conversing in German. K’s teaching assistants from Germany are always willing and ready to help students with their German.
