Bronco Bash 2026 is in the books! What a fun way to kick off the semester at Western Michigan University. Students got to learn about what we do here on campus... and take a pet rock home for their dorm! We also had a visit from our very own rockhound - Pippa... check out her stratigraphy bandana.

AIPG Early Career Professional and MGS Geoscience Specialist Nolan Gamet is presenting the MGS Earth MRI mapping project of the Watersmeet Dome at the 63rd American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) Annual National Conference in Duluth today. The Watersmeet Gneiss is the oldest rock documented in the US.

Update from the Karst Team! Justin and Tiana lead a field trip for the Forest Service to show progress made on the project this summer season. At the start of the season, the Karst feature inventory was 148 features, now at the end of the season, our inventory consists of 444 features, covering 4,800 acres. During the field trip, the team showed karst features they have found (both subtle and impressive), demonstrated, and taught their field methods to the Forest Service, as well as discussed future goals of this project.

The Summer Reading Program takes the UP! Thank you Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library, L'Anse Area Schools and Public Library, and Escanaba Public Library for having us! The Collaborative Summer Library Program's theme of "Unearth a Story" this year has been a great opportunity for our geologists to get out in the community and share their knowledge (and love!) for reading and the geosciences.
