After 46 incredible years at Western Michigan University, Amy Burns has had her LAST first day of school and is retiring! 💛🤎

Amy is truly a staple of the College of Education and Human Development, and her impact reaches far beyond Sangren Hall — across campus and throughout the Kalamazoo community.
We are so sad to see her go, but even more excited to celebrate her remarkable career, the memories she has made and the countless people she has impacted along the way.

On National Dog Day, we are celebrating a wonderful collaboration from last fall where creativity met community care at Western Michigan University! Students of the Merchandising Opportunities and Design Association used a club meeting to design and construct custom bandannas for WMU’s Therapy Dog Clinic. 🐶✨

Congratulations to Drs. Andrea Smith, and Angel Gullón-Rivera for another successful issue of GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy! Their publication has evolved into a recognized and respected source of kinship care research findings, practice briefs and policy updates since its inception 11 years ago and article downloads have come from 185 countries! ✨

Western Michigan University and CEHD alumnus, Dr. Aamir Hasan Ph.D.’20, is extending the impact of his doctoral research through a new book about language, identity and leadership! In the book, he examines how English-language learning can become a source of empowerment, confidence and opportunity for non-elite learners across South Asia. Great work, Aamir! 🌏

In case you missed it, Western Michigan University has expanded its Bronco Bound Guarantee, establishing a guaranteed admission partnership with Battle Creek–based Kellogg Community College that makes it easier for eligible KCC students to continue their education at Western starting this fall! 🎉
