"I chose Western Michigan University because of its strong academic reputation and welcoming international community. The programs in Political Science and Public Administration aligned perfectly with my research interests in governance, development, and climate policy. I was also drawn to the emphasis on applied learning and the opportunity to engage in research that addresses real-world challenges both locally and globally.

My favorite part of being a WMU student is the sense of community and the accessibility of faculty and resources. Professors are genuinely supportive and encourage independent research, while the campus offers many opportunities to present work, collaborate across disciplines, and grow personally and professionally. The diverse student body and vibrant academic culture make WMU a truly inspiring environment."

WMU also provides a diverse and welcoming campus environment that supports both personal and professional growth. Celebrating Cai Hesse 🎓🌍

A BBA graduate in Human Resource Management with a General Business minor, Cai has made the most of her time at WMU—both on campus and around the world. As a Global Engagement Program student intern, she supported global learning initiatives while also studying abroad in Lisbon, Portugal and Paderno del Grappa, Italy.

Her accomplishments include earning her SHRM-CP certification and placing 2nd in the Bronco Sustainability Challenge, along with active involvement in RSOs and honors societies.

“As a first-gen student, I loved being able to take advantage of all the opportunities at WMU… and sharing my experiences with the future leaders of the world.”

Next stop: Ohio State University, where Cai will begin her Master’s in Human Resource Management this fall.

Thank you, Cai, for everything you have contributed to the Haenicke Institute for Global Education. Your hard work has made a lasting impact. Wishing you success and endless opportunities beyond WMU. We’re so proud of all you’ve accomplished! 💛

As an international student, choosing WMU meant trusting that I would be supported while navigating life in a new country. What drew me to WMU was not only its academic strength, but the genuine sense of care that exists across campus. "The best part of my time at WMU has truly been the people I met along the way. From supportive professors who were always approachable and genuinely invested in my growth, to classmates who became close collaborators and friends, the environment felt very welcoming and inspiring. At the same time, being part of the Bangladeshi community here gave me a sense of home away from home, we celebrated festivals together, supported each other, and created memories that I will always cherish. If I had to choose one lasting memory, it would be those simple moments of togetherness, late-night study sessions, shared meals, and conversations, that turned this journey into something truly meaningful."

"Some of the highlights from my time at WMU are being able to learn from great professors as well as learn from diverse knowledge from friends who come from different part of the world; having to connect with friends from different parts of the world; Friday night soccer at the church, I look forward to them every week; and the free food on Thursdays at the church where I was able to relate and have conversation with other international students."
