We are excited to announce the first endowed chair in Avila's history! 🦅

The Dr. Charlene Gould Endowed Chair in the Performing Arts will enhance the prestige of an already outstanding program.

• Proven Track Record: Built upon a high-caliber BFA curriculum and top-tier facilities designed for professional growth.
• Elite Destinations: Opens doors to top-ranked master’s programs at world-renowned universities.
• Widespread Professional Presence: Drives creative careers in theatre, film, and television across local and international stages.
• Inspiring the Next Generation: Supports alumni who return to the classroom to mentor and elevate emerging performing artists.

Avila University's lead donor, Belinda Ruth Troxler ‘88, is a dedicated supporter of Avila University. She has committed her time, energy, and financial support to Avila for fifty years and continues to be an integral part of theatre events.

Belinda, a 1988 graduate of Avila, has committed an estate gift to Avila University and this will go directly to support the Dr. Charlene Gould Endowed Chair in the Performing Arts, which is the first ever endowed chair in Avila's history.

Dr. Charlene Gould, Professor Emerita of Theatre, retired in 2022 after having been affiliated with the university for nearly 40 years. She served as academic dean for 18 years, retiring as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Professor of Theatre. Throughout her career, she was deeply committed to the growth and development of the performing arts.

In her role as dean, Dr. Gould spearheaded the creation of a multi-million dollar performing arts center that opened in 2021. From teaching to directing to producing and networking, she invested her energy in creating a vibrant arts culture. As Producing Artistic Director of Goppert Theatre, she produced over 100 shows. After retirement, Dr Gould continues her engagement with Avila supporting the arts and serving as the president of the Emeriti Society.

Avila students have been given an extraordinary gift in the person of Dr. Charlene Gould and it is truly my honor to be the lead donor in establishing this Endowed Chair in her name.
I have both seen and experienced the transformative power of the Performing Arts at Avila University. Students fulfill their dreams while studying and engaging in the Performing Arts, sometimes in the most unexpected ways.

Theatre, music, and dance all encourage self- expression and self-confidence and these qualities are many times transferable to all aspects of life.

As an Avila student and alumna, I have had deep-rooted experiences that have been both welcoming and inclusive. They have affirmed the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet and their charism of serving the dear neighbor. These have created a lasting bond for me that is lifelong and priceless.

At this year’s Convocare, our Avila community came together to welcome our newest Eagles and celebrate the beginning of their journey at AU.

Our 16th President, Dr. Todd Pfannestiel, shared an inspiring message with our students, challenging them to embrace the opportunities ahead, believe in what they are capable of, and make their time at Avila meaningful.

Convocare reminds us that while every student’s journey is unique, no Eagle takes that journey alone. This is a community that will learn together, grow together, and support one another along the way.
