Research College of Nursing

Research College of Nursing Shaping Kansas City’s next generation of nurses since 1905 with hands-on training, leadership, and compassionate care.

Research College of Nursing has its roots in the history of Research Medical Center, which began in 1886 as the German Hospital. The German Hospital Training School for Nurses was founded in June 1905 with five students enrolled in the first class and five others who later transferred from other nursing schools. Since 1906, the year of the first graduating class, over 2,200 professionals have grad

uated from the School of Nursing and over 3,000 have graduated from the College of Nursing. Today, over 500 nursing students are enrolled across RCoN’s Bachelor and Master’s degree programs.

Welcome Week wrapped up with more sweet moments. Our students cooled off at the sundae station, got creative at the painting bar, and slowed down with our puzzle station. The perfect finish to a fun week. ✨💙🎨🍨

Volunteer Spotlight: Research College of Nursing!

A huge thank you to the Research College of Nursing for such a great day at our Main Lodge! With their help, we were able to accomplish many needs across our building. From hanging participant artwork, to prepping dinner for the night, to building hygiene kits and organizing clothes in the donation room, they did it all!

While participants are with us, we emphasize the importance of building healthy coping skills that play into your unique set of skills, interests, and passions. For many of our individuals, that is in the form of art. This symbolizes an important part of who they are. As such, all artwork is displayed across our group room. Not only does it showcase the many talents of the individuals with us, but it also allows them to walk into the room with pride, knowing that something they created will remain on our walls long after they are in their own homes. We had many pieces that were ready to find their place, and they jumped into action to make sure their was room for every single piece left!

They also ensured that hygiene kits were packed and ready for anyone that walked into our lodge, clothing was ready for anyone that needed it, and lunch and dinner was served to everyone that need it. This group truly embodied what we're all about; providing an entire continuum of care. From celebrating the wins of finding ways to empower those to create something to providing necessities to ensure they move closer to their goal every day, they were there every step of the way!

From RCoN graduate to hospital CEO. 💙

Kirk McCarty knows the impact of an RCoN education firsthand.

As CEO of Research Medical Center, he now gets to see that impact every day through the RCoN graduates caring for patients, supporting their colleagues, and making a difference across the hospital.

In his latest blog, Kirk reflects on his own journey, the partnership between RCoN and RMC, and the many ways RCoN graduates continue to shape the future of healthcare in Kansas City.
