Kansas City University alumna Dr. Megan Ottomeyer shares how the mentorship she received as a medical student helped shape the physician she is today. Now, she continues that legacy of mentorship by returning to Guatemala and Kenya alongside KCU faculty and students on global health trips.

Dr. Ottomeyer is one of many KCU alumni who continue to stay connected to the university and pour into our students long after graduation.

At Kansas City University, we believe in improving the communities that we serve. As part of that commitment, KCU opened its anatomy lab to the Kansas City Fire Department, where firefighters had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of airway anatomy with guidance from Dr. Jonathan Leo, chair of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, and KCU’s student anatomy fellows.

Opening KCU's campus, expertise and resources to our neighbors is one way we work to support and strengthen the community.

Thank you to the Kansas City Fire Department for joining us on campus. We are fortunate to share our knowledge and resources with those working to make our city stronger.

Students from Missouri Southern State University and Pittsburg State University visited KCU’s Joplin campus for a hands-on look at what it’s like to pursue a career in health care.

During their visit, students were introduced to osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and got to experience KCU’s medical and dental simulation labs.

This opportunity is made possible through KCU’s early admissions partnerships with universities across the region. We’re excited to provide future health care professionals with opportunities to explore their passions at KCU.

Dr. Austin W. Lehr, KCU alum and board-certified general surgeon, returned to campus to share his expertise with the osteopathic medical students during a hands-on suture clinic.

Open to all KCU medical students, the workshop provided an opportunity for students to gain an early introduction to surgical techniques and develop hands-on skills.

We are very grateful to Dr. Lehr for giving his time to support and inspire our students!

Happy Red Friday! 🏈

KCU was honored to welcome professional football legend Deron Cherry to Kansas City University and recognize his continued support of KCU. Cherry is a co-founder and longtime benefactor of KCU’s Score 1 for Health program, which has helped connect children and families with resources to support healthier lives.

Students, faculty and staff on both campuses celebrated with Chiefs-inspired donuts and coffee and raffles featuring footballs signed by Cherry. Cherry was also recognized during a special scholarship presentation for the Physicians Hall of Sponsors Scholarship, where he received a plaque honoring his continued support of KCU.

A big thank you to Deron Cherry for his longstanding support of KCU and Score 1 for Health!
