KU Department of Nurse Anesthesia Education

KU Department of Nurse Anesthesia Education KU’s 36-month Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS

KU offers a comprehensive, 36-month Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice degree in which registered nurses receive extensive education in both the academic and clinical components of nurse anesthesia. Founded in 1966, KU's program has produced a consistently high level of outstanding clinicians, educators and leaders in the nurse anesthesia profession. The extraordinary academic and clinical resour

ces offered by the University of Kansas Medical Center and The University of Kansas Hospital, along with outstanding clinical affiliate sites, enhance the student's learning opportunities. Graduates will have learned to administer anesthesia to all patient populations in a variety of clinical settings using all current anesthesia techniques. Nurse anesthetists trained here are able to function independently or in a group-practice setting. As one of only two nurse anesthesia programs in the state of Kansas, KU plays a vital role in ensuring anesthesia care is available across the state, especially in rural areas. Certified registered nurse anesthetists comprise 70% of all anesthesia providers in Kansas and 83 percent of the hospitals in Kansas rely exclusively on CRNAs for anesthesia care. Visit our website to learn more about the many reasons to choose KU!

A huge thank you to the Kansas Association of Nurse Anesthetists (KANA) for supporting the next generation of CRNAs! 💙

KANA provided funding for three of our SRNAs, Kayla Luke, McKenzie Jones, and Shannon Simone, to attend the AANA Annual Congress in Boston!

This was an incredible opportunity for them to learn from leaders in nurse anesthesia, connect with CRNAs and SRNAs from across the country, and represent the University of Kansas.

We are so grateful to KANA for investing in our students and their professional development, and we can’t wait to hear about Kayla, Mckenzie, and Shannon’s experience.

💙 We are still celebrating CRNA Week, and today is Throwback Thursday 💙

We’re throwing it back and reflecting on our nurse anesthesia journeys. From our nursing days, to the long nights of studying, early clinical milestones, and everything in between—each step has helped shape us into the skilled, compassionate CRNAs we are becoming.

Take a moment to look back and celebrate how far you’ve come. Share a photo, memory, or story from your CRNA journey and honor the dedication, resilience, and heart that define this profession.

Here’s to growth, grit, and the incredible community that makes it all possible!
