Blackboard Mobile is a special version of Blackboard that is optimized for smart phones and other mobile devices. In the past, the app has been free to UMKC students and faculty, but – because of a deal between Blackboard and Sprint – it was only available to people with Sprint as their mobile carrier. Starting September 10th, Blackboard mobile will be available for users with any carrier, not just Sprint. However, with this change, Blackboard will begin charging a small fee to download the app: $1.99 for an annual license or $5.99 for a lifetime license.
This license is portable, so students who transfer or take classes at more than one university will be able to continue using Bb Mobile at no extra charge. Current Mobile users will be prompted to download the new version on the date of the changeover, while others will find the new version in their device’s app store. The new app is available in both Android and iOS versions; unfortunately, Blackberry and WebOS will no longer be supported.
