Don't miss your opportunity to become a part of a state-of-the-art research trial!

Neuroresearch, the Bastyr lab of Dr. Laurie Mischley, is looking for 3-5 work study students to join our team as research assistants starting this quarter. Seeking candidates in the ND or Nutrition programs and are able to work 5-15 hours per week. Should have a strong interest in research and neurodegenerative disease, be able to multitask, be attentive to detail, be computer savvy, have strong writing skills, be motivated, understand data, and be organized. Opportunities for publication, research poster presentation, conference travel, etc. are all possible. Please email [email protected] if you are interested and/or have any questions. Include a CV or resume with cover letter, and include your areas of interest and availability (hours and whether you can meet in person and/or remote). Pay starts at $15 per hour based on roles, responsibilities, and experience.

About Isla Burgess, MSc. Dip Tchg, Dip HM. FNZAMH

Isla is an inspiring teacher, and Director of the International College of Herbal Medicine (2000-2021). She is an experienced herbal medicine practitioner and has presented at conferences in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United States, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Her current focus is how to deepen our understanding of living in relationship with our world, in particular, our relationship with the plant world.

In 2014 Isla began planting the gardens at “Viriditas” a Center for Plant Directed Learning and Herbal Resources in Central Otago, New Zealand. It is also the home of Viriditas Publishing, responsible for publishing “Weeds Heal, A Working Herbal”, “The Biophilic Garden, Connecting People, Plants and Inscape” both by Isla and “A Women's Health and Wellbeing Kete” Volumes I (A DIY Guide) and II by Isla Burgess and Mary Allan.

The land now has approx. 150 medicinal plants growing, and Isla offers courses in “The Traditions, Art and Science of Herbal Medicine” and “Plant Immersion, Incubation and Inspiration”. She is committed to the wellbeing of the planet and plants and the careful gathering of those for medicine. More recently she has taught a series of 'Zoom' workshops on Women's Health for the Mid-West Herbal Conference.
