Welcome to the Department of Geography and Anthropology at Kennesaw State University. We study people from all times and places, and how they interact with the world around them. Our students leave our programs with the knowledge and skills to enter the globally focused world in which we now live. Internships, both local and abroad, field schools, and directed applied research courses provide out

students with the opportunity to work in the fields of anthropology, geography and geographic information science before they graduate, so that they are prepared for life after college in the career world or in graduate school. We offer three degrees: a BS in Anthropology, a BS in Geospatial Sciences, and a BA in Geography. We also offer a Certificate in Geographic Information Sciences, a Certificate in Land Surveying, and three minors: Anthropology, Environmental Studies, and Geography. Students in our majors are encouraged to apply for the Global Engagement Certificate, which provides official recognition of a student’s commitment to global learning. There are active Anthropology and Geography Clubs in which our students make lasting friendships as they explore their chosen areas of study. Our faculty members are among the most active in the Study Abroad Programs offered at Kennesaw State University. Our professors have taught in study abroad or research abroad programs in Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, China, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Peru, Russia, and Spain, and new programs are being developed. Our faculty members are also affiliated with numerous other programs and departments on campus, such as African and African Diaspora Studies, Asian Studies, Classical Studies, Environmental Studies, and International Conflict Management. The opportunities are here for students who want to be more connected to the world, its peoples, and its cultures. Enjoy looking at our website, and let us know if you need any further information. We offer a variety of Anthropology, Geography, Geospatial Sciences, and Land Surveying courses over the summer!

At Kennesaw State, we want you to make the most of your tuition dollars and graduate on time. Enrolling in 15 credit hours per semester keeps you on track to earn 30 hours in your first year, 60 by your second, and 90 by your third — setting you up to graduate in four years. Plus, finishing on time helps you avoid extra semesters, reduce student debt, and start your career sooner. Stay on track, save money, and launch your future with 30-60-90 at KSU!

What can summer do for you?

· Lighten the load. Take fewer hours in the fall and spring semesters and take summer classes to stay on track.

OR

· Get ahead. Take 15 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters, plus summer courses, to graduate early.

Are you on track?

We know college can be tough, and sometimes life happens — but summer courses can help you catch up, get ahead, or stay on track with your degree. Taking a class or two over the summer can lighten your load for future semesters and keep you moving toward graduation. Plus, it’s a great way to stay connected, focus on fewer courses at a time, and finish your degree on schedule. We’re here to help you Stay for the Summer @ KSU! https://www.kennesaw.edu/summer/

Congrats to Grace Blomberg (Geography), Kaylee Clark (Anthropology), and Damian Martinez Gonzalez (Mechanical Engineering) on winning the Outstanding Student Oral Paper award at the Georgia Academy of Science 2026 Conference - Science Education Section. The research team also includes faculty mentors and research collaborators Dr. Vanessa Slinger-Friedman and Dr. Alice Gooding.
Their project (Virtual Learning Labs: Enhancing Student Engagement and Experiential Learning) explores how interactive virtual tours using immersive 360 technology can expand access to hands-on learning experiences and support student engagement in spaces like OwlSwap, the KSU Food Forest, and the Forensic Anthropology Field Lab (FAFL). Thank you to the Georgia Academy of Sciences for organizing this conference and for this award! Thank you also to the Intradepartmental Research Initiative grant that is supporting this research.
