Songs for Jenny

Songs for Jenny Songs for Jenny was a project to raise awareness and funds for Jennifer Chitwood's fight against stage IV cancer. I've left it up as a memorial to her fight.

My name is Jason Chitwood. I live just outside of Atlanta, Ga near Kennesaw State University. I have been written songs and performing since high school, but I don't get out much these days.I have a teaching job, a five-year-old and my wife of nearly a decade is fighting Stage IV cancer. She was a first-grade teacher before cancer metastasized. We are likely heading out of state for treatment, so

we have a go fund me to support our travels. If you enjoy my music or feel inspired our cause, please donate to Jennifer's You Caring link on this pagehttps://www.youcaring.com/jenniferchitwood-796626. My attempts at humor trump my serious compositions, but I'll mix in a little of both. I am coming straight of Kennesaw, but I'm not armed. I picked up most of the subject matter for my music living in various spots around Georgia. I was born in Athens, and I spent my childhood and formative years on the farm in Franklin County. I studied History at Georgia College and received a Master of Public Administration from Kennesaw State University. Over the years I played the college bar circuit with long forgotten bands Mezmer, The Crucials, Solo, and Shea's Gin. I'm no longer a weekend warrior. I teach government at Georgia Military College-Atlanta. I don't hit the bars or the studio very often so this page will mostly devoted songs and rants from Facebook Live.

Our Story

Songs for Jenny is a project to raise funds and awareness for Jennifer Chitwood’s fight with stage IV metastic breast cancer.

Jenny’s Story:

Hi, I'm Jennifer Chitwood. I have been fighting cancer for almost six years now. I've gone through a lumpectomy, breast radiation, whole brain radiation, cyberknife radiation to the brain, and FIVE different chemotherapies throughout those six years.

I've been married for ten years, and we've been dealing with cancer-related issues for over half our marriage. Moreover, my initial diagnosis came when our only child Emily was six-months-old. In 2014 I was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic cancer, and that was the end of my career as a full-time educator. I taught for eight years in the Cobb County School System. Needless to say, we have racked up some medical bills. We both grew up in modest rural households, and my diagnosis came on the heels of student loan debt, purchasing our humble home, and welcoming our only child into the world. We went on this journey broke, but with a little help from our friends, we are managing.
