Kennesaw State University Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice Welcome to the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Kennesaw State University The department actively promotes experiential learning.

Welcome to the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Kennesaw State University! We offer majors in Sociology and Criminal Justice, including a fully online Sociology degree program. The department also offers a Masters in Criminal Justice which has a unique focus on “Global/International Perspectives in Criminal Justice". As well, the department offers minors in Criminal Justice, Crimino

logy, Gerontology and Sociology. Sociology and Criminal Justice undergraduate majors are required to complete an internship or cooperative studies. We also value and promote global learning and in that connection, our faculty have offered study abroad opportunities in France/Italy, Ghana, Netherlands, Romania and Thailand. Our department houses the official journal of the Georgia Sociological Association, the Journal of Public and Professional Sociology.

Student-Faculty Collaborative Research: Coding Prison Misconduct and System Treatment in "Orange is the New Black"

Dr. Amber Wilson will share about the student-faculty collaboration process, research techniques, and one of her current research projects which uses coded data.

Together, we will learn how the project was conceptualized, how the coding instrument was developed, and how the data is analyzed, before trying your hand at coding yourself!

Black Studies at its core asks us to reconcile hegemonic and indigenous ways of knowing.
