Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Studies Department (ISD) at Kennesaw State University. With its focus on diversity, social justice, and community engagement, and a structure that encompasses eight different interdisciplinary programs, ISD is a unique department. We teach courses that bring together insights from many disciplines, and we encourage research and engagement projects aimed at solving

real world problems, from the local to the global level. ISD is a forward looking department that seeks to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century, challenges that require understanding the interconnectedness of people and ideas. The Interdisciplinary Studies Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in African and African Diaspora Studies, Asian Studies and Integrative Studies. The department offers minors in the following areas: African and African Diaspora Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Latin American / Latin@ Studies, Native American & Indigenous Studies, Peace Studies, and Religious Studies. We are also the home of the Peace Corps Prep program. The department also offers a terminal Master of Arts degree in American Studies, as well as a graduate certificate.

The purpose of the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) Women of Color Caucus-Frontiers Student Essay Awards is to discover, encourage, and promote the intellectual development of emerging scholars who engage in critical theoretical discussions and/or analyses about feminist/womanist issues concerning women and girls of color in the United States and diasporas. One (1) $500 award is available for a woman of color who is a current graduate student and member of NWSA.

The prize-winning essay will automatically be considered for publication by Frontiers; all essays are subject to Frontiers peer review process. If winning essays are accepted for publication, additional revisions may be required.

Don't forget to submit to our Sara A. Whaley Book Prize!

Thanks to a generous bequest from Sara A. Whaley, NWSA offers an annual $2,000 Sara A. Whaley book award on the topic of women and labor. This prize honors Sara Whaley, who owned Rush Publishing and was the editor of Women's Studies Abstracts. Each year NWSA will award a book prize ($2,000) for a monograph that addresses women and labor from intersectional perspectives.
