Today let's shine the spotlight on a few women who have overcome their personal struggles with eating disorders and are using their platform to fight back against harmful stigmas, stereotypes, and negative body images.
Shelby Gordon is a HAES ( Health at Every Size) informed coach and anti-racism consultant who's goal is to "help health/wellness practitioners really look at themselves and help them start - where they are - on an anti-racist journey to co-conspiratorship . The goal is to acknowledge the racist nature of and its devastating impact in the wellness industries, develop compassion and craft literal plans to provide culturally appropriate assistance to Black patients."
Nia Patterson is a well-respected mental health and LGBTQIA+ advocate who hosts the Body Trauma Podcast, which listens to people recount their experiences in their body and their life. Nia is also the owner and creator behind Self Love Tool Chest, a small company that sells a variety of mental health and body-positive merchandise. "Nia is passionate about advocating for people in marginalized bodies and seeks to bring resources to those who do not readily see representation and healthcare for themselves.
Gina Susanna is a writer, blogger, and Instagrammer whose work integrates mental health and eating disorders on the axes of body politics and self-acceptance. She uses her platform to speak out about biases, stigma, and discrimination in the response to and treatment of those suffering from eating disorders. Gina is also a NEDA ambassoder who's role is to serve as a change-maker and advocate that uses their personal experiences and platforms to raise awareness of eating disorders, combat diet culture and promote body acceptance."
