Alumni Spotlight - "Assane Sow has become an English Language Teaching Inspector since last June through a highly selective competition among the most graduated and experienced English teachers of the country. We have 6 ELT inspectors for a population of approximately 6000 teachers. He taught English for 22 years in rural and urban secondary schools and was lucky to teach all levels from Pre-school to Master's degree. He was one of the 16 ILEP Scholars in 2018 at Kent State University and had the chance to lead the group that year.

He loved almost all the activities but agreed that the visit to Chicago, the Ohio State Capitol, and Supreme Court in Columbus were of great importance to him. He enjoyed the cultural diversity of the alumni and the cultural presentations. Assane took some audit courses which were of great interest and helped him in his career choice. He keeps on being amazed by the availability, generosity, and openness of host families. He can't forget that. The attitude of coaches and their helping spirit is unforgettable. He can't forget that letter he wrote to himself and that was sent later where he summed up the gist of the training and the different activities and the lessons learned. He keeps on reading it every month. He underlined the opportunity to participate in events like the 33rd Virginia Hamilton Conference and the NeoTech Conference."

Alumni spotlight "Ana Ines Battaglino is a Math teacher in public and private secondary schools in Uruguay. She also coordinates the English staff at a private school and high school in the same country. She was one of the Fulbright TEA scholars in the Spring 2023 Cohort at Kent State University. The program hosted at KSU offered her the opportunity to improve her teaching strategies, sharing best practices in teaching methods with KSU's professors and other colleagues from 21 different countries. She explored formative and summative assessment and critical thinking skills, as well as building procedural fluency in mathematics and supporting productive struggle. She enjoyed the technology workshop about solving problems with technology in teaching and learning and the future trends in technology.

During the program, she had the opportunity to co-teach Geometry in Stow High School and share her experience with other colleagues at this school. Besides, she interacted with colleagues from other subjects and the principals from Stow School, allowing her the possibility to learn more about the US educational system.

When she returned home, she was able to share her knowledge of media literacy with her students and colleagues.

Her experience at KSU had a positive impact on her career, and she will continue teaching all her knowledge learned in the US to her own students and sharing it with her colleagues."

Fulbright Alumni - "Liliana Nederita is an English teacher at the Liceul de Limbi Moderne si Management in Chisinau, Moldova. She is also a language teacher trainer at the America House Chisinau and America Centre ”Ion Creanga”. She was a Fulbright TEA scholar in the Fall 2023 Cohort at Kent State University. The 6 week program has enabled her to learn a lot about the American school system during the field experience where she had the opportunity to communicate, exchange ideas and co-teach together with a high-school language teacher from the US. She has also learnt a great deal about the middle school and primary school levels by visiting and being immersed in the school life, experiencing the life of an American student. She has not only learned at Kent State about how to develop the autonomy of students in the classroom, she has seen it in action at Hudson High. The Faculty members and Hudson Schools had done their best to give her a comprehensive view of the American educational system and even to experience the campus life through promoting participation in various volunteering and sporting events that took place on Kent State Campus. The Hudson High management team gave her an insight into the ”whole student” and the holistic, interdisciplinary approach to education, as well as the ”Explorer” concept interwoven into the teaching design of the Hudson Schools that made headway by implementing innovative instructional practices and becoming an example of excellency in the area. Upon arrival in her home country, Liliana has continued to teach students and train teachers, implement and share her American University and High School experience. She is actively involved in training language teachers in order to replicate the best teaching practices experienced in the US."
