In the Department of Earth Sciences at Kent State University, the world is our field site. We have faculty and students working on cutting edge problems to address societal challenges and understand the fundamental ways that the land, water, air, and ice interact to make a habitable planet for humans and the environment.

Field work and travel experiences can be life-changing events that start students on the road to a successful career. Many of our courses include field components because to touch, see and experience the world around you provides the first step towards deeper understanding and a lifelong appreciation of the natural world.

"Sending students to the Arctic, out west, or even to field sites in Ohio is expensive. I hope you can help us raise the funds we need to make their education come to life." -Joseph D. Ortiz, Chair, Department of Earth Kent State University College of Arts and Sciences.

I hope you will join me in supporting our department and make a donation as part of our Earth Day Campaign.

The Department of Earth Sciences at Kent State University is committed to the integration of teaching, the advancement of knowledge, and public service, in an inclusive and accessible environment. Show your support for our students when they need it the most.
