Another great event.....Meet the Accountants Night 2019!!

There were a record number of employers at Meet the Accountants Night on Thursday. A special thank you to our event sponsors; bmf, EY, and Ciuni & Panichi. Many of our alumni were in attendance recruiting our students. Our students looked confident and presented themselves well! We wish them the best in obtaining an internship or a full time offer this recruiting season!

Accounting Majors in Europe!

2019 Annual Awards Banquet……….We had another successful awards banquet!

Congratulations to Don McFall, the Alumnus of the Year. Besides graduating with a master of science in accounting from Kent State, Don also taught for many years at Kent State. He accumulated many teaching awards and made a difference in the lives of many students.

Congratulations to Professor Pete Dorff, who is retiring after teaching and guiding students at Kent State Stark for 29 years!

The graduate student of the year, which is sponsored by the Federation of Schools of Accountancy, was awarded to Madison Spagnuolo.

Tim Hinkel was awarded Accounting Professor of the Year by the members of the accounting groups; Beta Alpha Psi and the Accounting Association.

Taylor Lesseski received the Accounting Student Organization Member of the Year for outstanding service to the student accounting organizations.

Special thanks to Sikich for being the sponsor of this year’s banquet. Their support helps pay for dinner for the student scholarship recipients. Also, thank you to Grant Thornton for sponsoring the photo booth at the banquet.

The Department of Accounting, Beta Alpha Psi, and the Accounting Association would like to express their appreciation to all of the organizations and individuals that provide support to the Accounting Department, our organizations, and our fellow students!

Stark Campus Visit......Accounting Dept. faculty, a Career Services Office representative, our student Ohio Society of CPA Ambassador, and several Beta Alpha Psi/Accounting Association members visited the Stark Campus to discuss the accounting profession.

Thank you to Professor Pete Dorff for encouraging Stark Campus students to attend! Our goal is to promote the accounting profession and help students transition to the Kent Campus where they will complete their major in accounting.

Thanks to the Smucker's recruiting team for hosting faculty/staff from the Accounting and Finance Departments, and the Career Services Office. We met with the Smucker's lead recruiter for Kent State (a KSU accounting graduate), as well as many others. We also met with a KSU accounting major that is an intern at Smucker's and several of our past graduates. The visit was informative and the Smucker's campus is beautiful. Thanks for hosting us!

Congratulations to the Kent State Beta Alpha Psi chapter……

The KSU BAP chapter was awarded a cash prize for its abstract for the BAP Ethics Award, sponsored by Grant Thornton. This award recognized those who exemplify responsibility to the business community, the public at large and to the profession to report accurately and honestly, no matter the situation. The judges were impressed with the chapter’s plans. They were able to see the impact that it could have on the BAP chapter and those in the community. The prize money will be utilized by our BAP chapter toward implementing its project. Our chapter’s final submission is due May 1 and winners will be announced at the annual BAP meeting.

In addition, our BAP chapter received a cash prize for its proposal for the Beta Alpha Psi Inclusive Leadership Award sponsored by EY. The chapter’s proposal has been selected to move forward in this process and is eligible to continue to be considered for one of five grand prize awards.

The Ohio CPA Foundation’s College Scholarship Program awards Ohio’s accounting majors who plan to become CPAs. Applications are accepted annually from September through mid-November. Scholarships are awarded the following summer for fall tuition and fees.
