We're back for another Fieldwork Friday!πŸŽ‰

This week we are featuring 2026 M.S. in Occupational Therapy grad, Morgan Edwards, who completed her last Level II fieldwork placement at Great Expectations Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy in Hornell, New York!

Morgan had the opportunity work with mainly 3-4 year old and some elementary-aged children, building fine motor and visual motor skills, feeding skills, and incorporating sensory integration.

She was supervised by Lindsey Mess, MS, OTR/L. Lindsey noted that Morgan had continuous growth in her documentation skills throughout her time at Great Expectations, taking on feedback, making adjustments, and using measurable and specific data. Morgan grew in confidence throughout her fieldwork experience, not only in working with the students but also the interprofessional team.

Congratulations to Morgan on graduating in May-- we're proud of you!πŸ’šπŸ’›

We're back for another Fieldwork Friday!πŸŽ‰

This week we are featuring senior OT student, Taylor Finch, who completed her first Level II fieldwork placement at Stanford Gibson Primary School/Norwich City School District in Norwich, New York!

She was supervised by Keuka College alum, Jennifer (Jen) Parker, OT/L πŸ™Œ Taylor went through school at Norwich and considered herself lucky to already know Jen, but then got to work with her professionally as an OT student.

The time management in the school-based setting is a difficult task even for seasoned therapists, and Jen noted that Taylor took on each and every task with a positive mindset and always asked good questions to continue her learning. Taylor grew in confidence throughout her placement and learned to trust her own judgement when it came to working with a variety of students. We're proud of you, Taylor! πŸ’šπŸ’›

We're back for another Fieldwork Friday!πŸŽ‰

This week we are featuring 2026 M.S. in Occupational Therapy grad, Charlotte Dunn, who completed her last Level II fieldwork placement at Thompson Health on the acute care/inpatient rehab unit. Charlotte had the opportunity work with young adults to older adults with a variety of diagnoses. She enjoyed the opportunities to learn from the interprofessional team, including the physical therapists who guided her through different co-treatment methods.

She was supervised by Ashley Northrup, OT/L. Ashley noted that Charlotte has those qualities that are non-teachable which will take her far in her career as an occupational therapist: compassion, empathy, and responsiveness. Charlotte conducted excellent and thorough evaluations in her time at Thompson, and established appropriate client-centered goals. She also learned more about the shortcomings of our healthcare system and the impacts that can have-- including when necessary equipment is not covered, and how to connect patients to community services like loan closets.

Overall, Charlotte was noted to be a lifelong learner who was eager to grow and build skills throughout her placement. Congratulations to Charlotte on graduating this past weekend-- we're proud of you!πŸ’šπŸ’›

It's Fieldwork Friday!πŸŽ‰

This week we are featuring senior OT student, Julia Shortslef, who recently completed a Level II fieldwork placement at a Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES 6:1:2 Autism Program in Jordan, New York! She was supervised by Keuka College alum, Ryan Mavretish, MSOT, OTR/L πŸ™Œ

Julia felt that working with the students was highly rewarding and that Ryan provided an excellent learning experience in a school-based setting, guiding her through each step of the OT process. She was able to participate in a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training during her placement at BOCES, learning how to deescalate and respond safely to behaviors. Ryan noted that she was very student-centered, creative, and innovative in providing students with new and engaging treatment sessions everyday. She also had the drive to learn something new every single day, making the most of her first Level II fieldwork placement.

We're proud of you, Julia! πŸ’šπŸ’›
