Proverbs 17:17 says:

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” (KJV)

This scripture relates beautifully to Heroines of Jericho because it reflects the core principles of sisterhood, compassion, and support that Heroines strive to uphold.

How it applies to Heroines of Jericho:

Love at all times: Heroines are called to demonstrate love and kindness to one another, not only during celebrations and successes but also during times of hardship, illness, grief, and personal struggles.

Support during adversity: The latter part of the verse reminds us that true sisterhood is revealed during difficult times. Heroines stand beside one another through life's challenges, offering encouragement, prayers, and assistance when needed most.

Faithful friendship: The Heroines of Jericho teaches members to build genuine bonds rooted in charity, truth, and loving kindness. Proverbs 17:17 reinforces the importance of being a dependable friend and sister regardless of circumstances.

Service to others: Just as Heroines extend care to their members, they also demonstrate this scripture through community service, outreach, and acts of love toward those in need.

A fitting reflection for a Court meeting or devotional might be:

As Heroines of Jericho, Proverbs 17:17 reminds us that our commitment to one another is not seasonal or conditional. We are called to love at all times, stand together through adversity, and exemplify true sisterhood through charity, truth, and loving kindness.

E.L. Downing Court #237 is proud to raise awareness for both Mental Health Month and National Water Safety Month. 💚💙

During our recent meeting, each Heroine and Knight present received a Mental Health Rubber Duck stress ball and Life Vest gifted by our Most Ancient Matron, Juanita Davis-Ealy, as a reminder that mental wellness and water safety are both important to our community.

💚 Green represents Mental Health Month — encouraging awareness, support, healing, and reminding others that it’s okay to ask for help.

💙 Blue represents National Water Safety Month — promoting education, prevention, and the importance of staying safe around water.

Together, we continue to serve, educate, and uplift our community through meaningful acts of awareness and care.

Today, members of E.L. Downing Court #237 proudly attended the City of Killeen Memorial Day Ceremony to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. 🇺🇸

It was a meaningful morning of reflection, unity, and gratitude as veterans, community leaders, organizations, and families gathered together in remembrance of our fallen heroes.

We were especially honored to witness the laying of wreaths, patriotic tributes, and heartfelt remarks that reminded us all that freedom is never free.

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who gave their lives for our country and extend our deepest appreciation to all who have served.

“May we never forget that our freedom has been purchased at the highest price.”

Today, members of PRIDE OF KILLEEN #620 TEXAS F&AM PHA & E.L. Downing Court # 237 HOJ were honored to worship together at
Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church Killeen Texas
The service was a beautiful celebration recognizing retired Command Sgt. Maj. Evans Washington, Sister Rose Washington, and their family for their faithful dedication and unwavering service to the church community.

During the service, both were presented with the distinguished Deacon and Deaconess Emeritus Awards in honor of 32 years of outstanding commitment, leadership, and servantship. Their legacy of faithfulness is truly inspiring and a testament to a life devoted to GOD and His people.

Pastor J.A. Moland delivered a powerful message centered on Faith and GOD’S Promise, reminding us all:

• Seek Him
• Trust Him
• Operate in Faith

He challenged us through Epistle to the Hebrews by asking, “If you don’t have faith, why are you coming to GOD?” A timely reminder that faith is the foundation of our walk with Him.

We thank Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church for the warm hospitality and for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful and spirit-filled service.

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, E.L. Downing Court #237 pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. 🇺🇸

There is nothing “Happy” about Memorial Day. It is a day of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for those who gave their lives in service to our nation and for the families who continue to carry that loss each day.

While many will gather with family and friends this weekend, we encourage everyone to also take a moment to honor the fallen, reflect on their sacrifice, and remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Honor. Remember. Never Forget. 🇺🇸
