SEC has a hand in every stage of the event planning process while organizing shows together. Our duties include choosing/booking performers, selling tickets, marketing and advertising, working backstage as a stage crew or security team, and much, MUCH more. URI SEC works on concerts, comedy shows, lectures/presentations by famous athletes, actors, actresses, politicians, or reality stars, "daytime
distractions" including massage therapists, tie dying, sundae making, lobster bakes, free movie showings, etc. Check our "likes" sections on this page to see some of the great acts we've hosted in previous years. So how can you become a member of SEC? It's as simple as showing up to our weekly subcommittee meetings. There are 4 subcommittees in SEC: Concerts, VIP, Special Events, and Advertising. Each subcommittee has a meeting once a week. You do not have to attend each subcommittee's meetings, but we definitely encourage it! At these meetings you can voice your opinion and meet some really great people. You will also have the opportunity to sign up to help set up for the show and help take everything down after the show (and possibly meet the act). If you are interested in applying for an Executive Board position, we accept applications at the beginning of each semester. There are 4 positions in each subcommittee: President, Vice President, Advertising Manager, and Secretary/Treasurer. These positions require a lot of commitment, but is an absolutely amazing experience. If you are interested in applying for these positions, you must contact the SEC page and see if there are open positions. If you love music, movies, comedy, or any type of entertainment, this is the committee for you! So grab a friend or two and come to our weekly subcommittee meetings to be apart of the URI SEC.
