As we continue celebrating Black History Month, of , will be returning to URI for our second iteration of what was previously titled The History of Soul Food, now reimagined as A Taste of the African Diaspora.

Much like last year’s program featuring the plantain, with this year’s featured dish, we will once again explore the cultural significance by sampling the many ways it is prepared across the African Diaspora. While there is nothing beautiful about the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, there is profound beauty in the cultural connections, resilience, and shared traditions that continue to unite us. This program honors those connections through food, storytelling, and community.

This program is in partnership with the African Student Organization, the Black Student Union, the Cape Verdean Student Association, the Caribbean Student Association, the Dominican Alliance, the Haitian Student Association, and Uhuru Sasa.

Seating is limited, and registration will close once we reach 60 participants.
To get a glimpse of last year’s experience, feel free to scroll through the slides.
