The Art Program offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) The B.A.

TAMUK's Art, Communication & Theatre Department is a dynamic and innovative group of Creatives that make up the 5 programs in the department - Art, Journalism, Speech Communications, Digital Media & Film, and Theatre degree with areas of study in drawing, painting, graphic design, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and art history. Students are prepared to pursue graduate school, a career in adverti

sing art, graphic design, art history; or become certified as an all-level art teacher. Art courses are offered for students seeking certification in a second teaching field or as a specialization in an elementary teaching degree. with a major in art is designed for students who wish to obtain a liberal arts degree. Intro courses are open to interested students as electives. Communication-Journalism Bachelor's Degree
Courses in the program involve traditional newspaper reporting, feature writing, media law, journalism history, graphic design and pagination. In addition, the journalism program offers courses in public relations and advertising. Today, the journalism program also combines traditional newspaper work with social media, video and other online components used in today’s fast-evolving media industry. Countless graduates left the South Texan (our own student-run newspaper) and built successful careers at newspapers and magazines of state and national importance. Communication-Speech Bachelor's Degree
This program prepares students for a wide variety of career fields. Communication skills are consistently ranked as the top skill employers are looking for when hiring or promoting within organizations. Students gain training in the foundations of human communication, interaction, professional communication competence, and experience with a managing the challenges of a highly mediated communication environment. Areas of study within our discipline include rhetoric, interpersonal communication, organizational communication, performance studies, and highly evolving media studies. You can also earn a teacher's certification through this program. Other offerings:
The Art, Communication, and Theatre Arts department offers one certification and two minors inherent to their courses. These are the Theatre Arts minor, the Speech minor, and the Digital Art certification. Interested students can make inquiries of the required courses to our office.

There, you browse through the lots, and you can use the embedded link to the bidding registration form to enter your bid amount for your favorite artwork. Javelinas!

The Department of Art, Communication, and Theatre is thrilled to announce our upcoming Art Alumni Exhibition and Silent Auction, taking place in spring 2026. This special event will bring our creative community together to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our alumni while raising crucial support for the department.

We invite you to participate by donating an original piece of your artwork. Your contribution will help strengthen our program and expand opportunities for current and future students. All donated works will be featured in the exhibition and included in the silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the department.

By taking part, you’ll not only be supporting your alma mater—you’ll also have the chance to showcase your work to a broad audience of fellow alumni, students, faculty, and community members who deeply value the arts.

If you are interested in donating a piece, please contact the Department of Art, Communication and Theatre at 361-593-3401 or at [email protected]​du by January 6, 2026, to let us know. We will then follow up with details on artwork submission, deadlines, and delivery instructions.
