Welcome to the Lone Star College-Kingwood Music Department Page! Students in applied lessons perform in studio classes and recitals during the semester.

We are designed to prepare students to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Music and then transfer to any four-year university. For these students intending to transfer, we offer core music courses such as music fundamentals, music literature, diction, music theory, sight-singing/ear training, and music appreciation. We also offer two types of class piano: one for music majors only, and one for anyone who can read music. For more advanced students, we offer instruction in applied voice, piano, violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, percussion, flute, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and French horn. For students in applied lessons, studio classes are held every Monday from 12:30 pm - 1:20 pm, plus they have their private lesson times. Our eight ensembles (both vocal and instrumental) perform at least one formal concert a semester, as well as at other opportunities that occur both on- and off-campus. We also have a community education track that encourages local citizens to participate in our music classes and performing ensembles, enhancing both students' skills and the community's culture. There are different ways that members of the community can take these courses, and you may find that information here. Frequently, other activities happen for our students: the Camerata Music Student Club meets twice a month and covers various topics related to the music profession, and is open to all students; we have Master Classes, Faculty Recitals, and other performing arts events throughout each semester; our ensemble students also audition for the All-State Band & Choir every year, which then perform at TMEA in San Antonio, Texas in February.
