Summer Session at Truman State University

Out of care for the health and safety of our students and staff, given the continued uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the very difficult decision to not hold the Joseph Baldwin Academy on our campus this summer. However, to continue providing our students with outstanding learning opportunities, we will be offering the 2020 Joseph Baldwin Academy in an online format, and at a significantly reduced rate, to those who are interested.

JBA Online will be held in one session taking place July 6-24, 2020, and consist of four of our most popular classes that have been converted for use in an online setting. We know that many students come to JBA for its social aspects, and we are planning to address this as well. Beyond academics, our staff is building an online social experience utilizing the same online tools as classes. Students will meet and get to know their peers while engaging in fun and entertaining activities, just as they would normally at JBA. Each day will include 1-2 hours of activities, along with daily challenges that encourage students to extend activities beyond the scheduled online time. Part of our goal with the design of this program is to give students engagement opportunities that get them away from the computer and outside. We also want to continue to build the sense of JBA community that we are known for in a safe, moderated environment.

The cost of JBA Online is $550 per student. Families have received notification that includes instructions on how to register for JBA Online. Notification was delivered via email. An additional first-class mailing will also be delivered. JBA Online registration opens on April 20th at 5pm. The deadline to re-register for JBA Online is May 15, 2020. While class sizes will be larger than normal, seats are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

A wide variety of course options are available to students interested in summer enrollment. Typically, around 150 on-campus and online courses are offered at Truman each summer.
