603 South High St., former home of college president and the house I consider to be the spiritual home of Delta Omicron Mu. Located across the street and two houses north of the front gateway to campus, one couldn't find but two places to live closer to campus.
I moved into the 2nd story big bedroom on the side the late spring of 1973 and was there for the 4th of July . . . when good neighbor DOM's across the street, Bugs Haman, Woody Wilson, Glenn Tucker, and Dave Henderson launched a pop bottle rocket war shooting at my big double open window that was screenless . . . Brother Donovan Meinhardt also participated with gunners mates launching from the back seat of his convertible. They nailed me several times . . . no wonder I have heart problems!
The house looked much better when we were there with our big beautiful DOM Crest painted by brother Jim Ulry/Toymaker and our empty kegs lined up on the front porch awaiting return . . . and our ceremonial Birdbath that sat out in the front yard.
Small world department . . . while going through some old papers in preparation for moving after a divorce in 1987, I came across a letter from an old girlfriend who just happened to live there off campus the summer of 1964.
Here's to pop bottle rocket wars!
