Graduation is always bittersweet. While it is sad to say goodbye to a class of such wonderful young humans, we are inspired by the critical, curious, and creative thinkers you have grown to become during your time at Truman. Through your study of languages and linguistics, you have learned to cogently communicate and structure evidence-based arguments in or about a language that is not your first; reflect deeply on cultures that may have been unfamiliar to you four years ago; and carefully grapple with complex global perspectives and questions, always with an open mind.

You are equipped with a distinctive liberal arts education that has well-prepared you to make a transformative impact on your life and the lives of those around you. As you all embark on the next steps of your unique personal and professional journeys, never lose sight of the dedication, passion, and empathy that united you as Truman students, and now as alumni.

Congratulations and best of luck! Remember that Kirksville will always be here to call you home, and your Truman and LLG family will always be here to cheer you on. 💜🐾

Congratulations to German professor Dr. Ernst Hintz, who won the Faculty Mental Health and Wellness Honoree award at the academic accolades banquet! Linguistics professor Dr. Emily Olsen was also a finalist for the first ever Faculty Ally award. Both were nominated by students and underwent interviews by a student government committee.

We are so proud that we had two honorees representing LLG for these awards. We are grateful for everything you do for our students and the department!🌟🎉

Last week, ten of our Spanish students shared their capstone research projects, presenting on topics in Hispanic linguistics, literature, and culture. We learned about the economic impact of the Camino de Santiago, Spanish gothic literature, leísmo in Ecuador, translations of Huckleberry Finn, cultural analysis of Rosalía albums, and more!

🎉We are so proud of all their hard work and dedication to the field of Hispanic studies. ¡Felicidades a todos! 🎉
