It's NEVER too early to start preparing for your career! The application and interview processes for jobs in the criminal justice field are much more stringent than regular jobs. Background checks, credit checks, and drug tests are pretty much always a given. Scrub that social media. If you have bad credit now is the time to start fixing it. If you have no credit, now is the time to build it. If you have been partaking in ma*****na use, NOW is the time to stop. Most agencies will understand some past experimentation, but current use is not allowed at all, legal or illegal.

There are a LOT of civilian jobs with the county that allow you to be police-adjacent without joining the police force. These jobs offer solid pay, great benefits, and often include tuition reimbursement. For your consideration:
*The communications bureau has paid training, tuition reimbursement, AND time you work here will count towards your seniority and benefits if you do decide to go to the police academy.
*Security jobs are a GREAT foot-in-the-door with a much easier hiring process.
