Pellissippi State CC Weld Club

As the semester comes to a close, Pellissippi’s Weld Club is passing on the torch - literally - to the new incoming Board Members. We are very excited to have Samantha () on as Weld Club President, Hayden as Weld Club VP, Alex () as Treasurer, Ryan as Project Manager, and José ( ) as the Social Media Guru. We want to once again thank for allowing us to use their space to facilitate club events over the years. We also want to thank David () and Aaron () for their service as President and Vice-President, respectively. The club is confident that we are moving forward in the right direction, and we are stoked for what the future holds.

Part of today’s activities included a tour of Knox Makers metalworking, machining, and blacksmithing zones, along with a ceremony inspired by and their program. We encourage students and club members to join Knox Makers and AWS in order to better themselves and their future careers as welders and fabricators. Another successful day at our Weld Club Open Shop! We got things kicked off early with moving a bookshelf, Grace got her hobby welding class all set and running, we had our club meeting, David and Aaron finished grinding, welding, and priming the panther (finally!), and other students worked on welding technique and pattern development. We voted on our future club leadership positions - David is president, Aaron is VP, Jack is secretary, and Samantha is treasurer. We’re looking forward to our next open shop on Saturday, April 2nd! Be there or be square!

We had another very productive day with the Weld Club Open Shop! We had a decent turnout between day students and night students. Between our club meeting, we had give assistance to students on pattern development, TIG welding techniques, and laser cutting equipment. Adam also repaired another titanium weld, although the repair was cut short due to a contaminant from the original weld. More argon back-purging and prep to follow… While that went on, and continued knocking down weld metal on the panther statue, with help from Samantha and Quinn. Rise and grind, as they say. We thank our instructors for facilitating this opportunity to improve out skills, and we thank the students for coming out and working hard!

Our weld club shirts and hoodies have arrived! Big big BIG thank you to for their hard work and excellent quality. We had a great day at the Pellissippi State CC Involvement Fair! We were able to show off our Soldamatic AR (augmented-reality) Virtual Welder to students and staff. This tool is incredible for demonstrating proper weld technique with important feedback, all while saving on costs and material in a safe manner. Every person that tried out the AR welder received a free Pellissippi State metal shield as well.

We thank for not only providing the space to help us grow, but also for their support and commitment to building up skilled trades in general.

We had a productive session this week for our first Weld Club meeting and Open Lab day. We had teach a hobbyist class today, assist students with TIG welding processes, and grind out the panther some more, and go over meeting details. If you are a current and former student at we want YOU to join the club! It’s free too. If you also have any metal repairs, bring them to us and we will fix them for you for free!
