📣 Big news from BAS! 📣

We're thrilled to share that Scott Daughtry has been named Director of Strategy for Tennessee Men’s Basketball under Coach Rick Barnes. 🏀📊

Scott’s innovative work with UT Basketball began as a research project through the Melton Scholars program, which pairs top business analytics undergraduates with faculty mentors to pursue a research project utilizing advanced analytical techniques. As a Melton Scholar, Scott was mentored by Professor Adam Spannbauer, whose guidance helped shape the foundation of the cutting-edge basketball analytics Scott now brings to the Vols' program.

This is a proud moment for the Haslam College of Business and a shining example of how hands-on research opportunities can lead to game-changing careers.

📢 Excited to share insights from the recent OR/MS Today article, "Educating in the Age of AI: Future-proofing O.R. Practitioners."

Featuring our very own Dr. Wenjun Zhou, Lawson Professor and Director of the Ph.D. program in Business Analytics at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville!

We are committed to preparing future analytics practitioners for the evolving landscape shaped by artificial intelligence. As a past recipient of the INFORMS UPS George D. Smith Prize, our Business Analytics program continues to adapt to meet market demands. AI tools are integrated across our curriculum, ensuring students remain at the forefront of this transformation.

Dr. Zhou contributed valuable perspectives as part of an expert panel at the 2024 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Seattle. The panel discussed the role of AI in education, ethical considerations, and how to future-proof graduates. The article highlights our ongoing commitment to staying ahead of market changes and student needs.

Read more about this important discussion and the future of analytics education here:

How will AI impact O.R. practitioners? Is it simply another tool that can be added to an extensive and proven toolbox, or is it poised to fundamentally reshape our approach to solving problems? In either case, how should O.R. educators and practitioners respond to AI and its impact?
