Pellissippi State Community College Service-Learning and Civic Engagement

Service is an integral part of life at Pellissippi State. Through partnerships with local non-profits, we encourage students to volunteer, serve others and become active, engaged citizens. As a student at Pellissippi State, you may connect with Service-Learning as part of a class, as a way to fulfill community service requirements of Tennessee Promise or another scholarship, or just on your own.

Service-learning and volunteering are vital ways to connect with your community. You give back but also gain work experience, learning about yourself and others along the way.

Information for Current Students

Students who participate in Service-Learning while at Pellissippi State can have their volunteer hours printed on their official transcripts. Employers often look for graduates who demonstrate service. Students who serve at least 60 hours during their career at Pellissippi State can request a Service Medallion of Distinction to wear at Commencement.

If you aren’t taking a class with an embedded Service-Learning component, you can sign up for volunteer opportunities with dozens of community partners.

To record and verify your service hours, register as a member of the ServiceCorp before you volunteer, then report your volunteer hours, and later request your Service Medallion of Distinction — all in myPellissippi.

Remember, if you a Tennessee Promise student, you must report your hours separately to tnAchieves.

Pellissippi State recognizes faculty and staff who volunteer. Report your volunteer hours in myPellissippi. At each spring’s employee awards ceremony, we recognize employee volunteers who have submitted their volunteer hours prior to March 1.
