This Thursday, the exhibition “Stay Alive & Make Art” opens with a p***c reception from 3-5pm. The exhibition is on view until December 14.

Presented by the KU CD Department, this exhibition features the restless exploration of techniques, ideas, and methods of the young prodigy Amos Lemon Burkhart, who worked to understand and express his own turbulent interior life.

The complexities of emotional instability, anxiety, and trauma; questions about love, s*x and gender identity, and issues around substance use and abuse, are revealed in complex layered paintings and drawings.

Amos died tragically in a drug and alcohol related drowning in 2018 at the age of 20.

This exhibition is not only a display of art, but also features interactive stations for hands on activities that encourage conversations about creativity, mental illness, and addiction to help inspire artists to STAY ALIVE AND MAKE ART.

Special thanks to Ann Lemon and Dane Burkhart and the KU CD department for the coordination of this exhibition. Please follow to learn more about the foundation and the touring exhibition they have created in honor of Amos.

We were super excited to take students to Chelsea last week to see the Austin Martin White exhibition at Petzel Gallery. We were lucky to get a gallery talk and get some behind the scenes details. Students in advanced painting with Prof Shultis and Prof Covello have been talking about his work and the artist will be coming to KU for an artist talk and critique on Nov 3.

We’re hoping to continue this programming every semester - See the Show in NYC / Meet the Artist at KU.

We also visited Gladstone Gallery .gallery to see the Keith Haring show, Morgan Presents to see Taking Form Exhibition, Gagosian Gallery on 24th to see Nathaniel Mary Quinn and Richard Serra, Anna Zorina Gallery to see Soojin Choi, David Zwirner Gallery to see Andra Ursuta and have minds blown by Sasha Gordon.

So cool to get our art students to NYC so often!
