In our college we host an annual community picnic to celebrate achievements across departments that elevate Kutztown University’s academic reputation. The picnic also includes some fun, with the much-anticipated Rubber Duck Race in the Alumni Fountain. Departments race rubber duckies down the fountain and the winner receives a duck trophy for their triumph for the year.

The award was established by John P. Schellenberg, emeriti professor of physical science, faculty alumni and friends to recognize an early career faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding work. Congrats to Dr. Fillman for the achievement!

At Kutztown, everyone is committed to creating a safe environment where students can be safe while learning. Our labs are equipped with important safety features including eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and other emergency equipment to help protect students while they work with chemicals.

Chemistry meets forensic science🔬

In our forensic classes, students learn how instruments can be used to identify elements and trace chemical evidence. In this demonstration, Dr. Betts shows how forensic scientists can analyze a dollar bill for evidence.
Labs like these give students experience in how chemistry can help solve cases and prepare them for careers in forensic science and detective work.
