Guillermo Escalante ’97, MBA ’99
From student-athlete to leader in sports science and higher education, Guillermo Escalante ’97, MBA ’99, has built a career rooted in perseverance, mentorship, and purpose.
After immigrating from Costa Rica as a child and overcoming challenges as a young father, Guillermo found his foundation at the University of La Verne. Through the support of ULV mentors, he discovered his passion for athletic training, earned his bachelor’s degree early, completed his MBA, and went on to become a nationally recognized professor, researcher, author, and leader in sports nutrition.
Today, he serves as Associate Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at Cal State San Bernardino, where he helps students, especially underrepresented students in STEM, believe in themselves and pursue careers they love.
His story is a powerful reminder to show up for yourself, keep moving forward, and never underestimate the impact of a mentor who believes in you.
